OK, let’s start with the ill-timed stop-lights. Notice the lights are red in all directions.
How many times have you sat at a red light for what seems like an eternity and nary a car passes the intersection. The time is actually 2-4 minutes but the result is the same, wasted time and gas. My 19 mile drive to work starts at 5:30 AM. My drive can vary from 30 minutes if I get the lights to 45-50 minutes if I miss lights. Traffic at this time is usually light but if I go much later the drive time can exceed an hour. One doesn’t need to be a mathematician to see the 15+ minute increase.
Some of the light stops have zero cross traffic while others may have one vehicle pass but the light will still hold traffic for several minutes. Multiply 130 seconds by the number of wasteful stops, zero MPG (oopps an acronym, I hate ‘em) that would be zero miles per gallon and then look at the numbers of cars and trucks idling and you’ll get lots of wasted fuel. If you have a computer “MPG” on your dash you know how MilesPerHour dramatically affects your overall MilesPerGallon numbers. Look at the difference when you are plugging along the “express-way” at 5 MilesPerHour. Yikes that’s costing you big time $.
